Welcome to my shiny new Blog. After much consideration, I felt that my clients could find it quite helpful. It will give you a little background and show you a little of what goes on behind the scenes. I personally find it fascinating. I also hope that students of psychotherapy and hypnotherapy will find it useful too.
Pressure of work means that it probably won’t be updated very often. But I hope that what is here will be useful for all concerned.
So how does therapy work – big question and lots of strands to follow. I am not a brain expert in the sense of clever explanations but think about this part of the brain called the amygdala. A roughly almond-shaped mass of grey matter inside each cerebral hemisphere, involved with the experiencing of emotions. It is believed that our responses to events are stored here. Unfortunately the event itself is stored in the cerebral cortex. We do no readily recall these events, so we can scared, angry or panicky and not know why? Also remember that the ‘events’ can be very minor, but something that would not trouble you as an adult will scare the hell out of you when you are 5 for example. Therapy, talking, hypnosis and EFT often find these events, and discharge the emotion in the memory and change occurs. This is a short over simplified explanation but hopefully as you read this it will make you think.
